Our Opinion

 How transactions have been carried out until now

Let's take the example of a private individual who wants to install a photovoltaic system on the roof of his house in order to sell the electricity generated to the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (DEDDIE).

What are the steps that must be taken to complete the transaction?

He starts doing market research on domestic photovoltaic systems; contacts companies, professional installers; finds out about power generation plants, market prices. To get a clear picture of the market, he needs to be on the move, arrange on-site meetings, gather technical information, make comparisons, consider the challenges, have discussions with 'experts' and non-experts, friends, etc. until his patience is exhausted. Once he has made up his mind he assigns the job to the chosen supplier. The criteria for this assignment are commonly the following:

  • The product's technical features
  • Its purchase price
  • The commercial reputation/name of the supplier
  • The product's profile on the market
  • Other information

Anticipated time required for completion, particularly if they are not familiar with this market: 60 days (on average).

 How we can carry out transactions in the future

The private individual as an 'interested party' via the 'Energy in Business' application states his requirement to the 'Members' (companies-professionals) who participate in this by selecting the subject category 'Photovoltaics'. By filling out the form with the relevant questions, he will essentially describe the specificities of his project.

Those Members who receive this form, will, if they wish, place their offers. The time required from the initial search to the placing of offers can be between one (1) and twenty five (25) days and, of course, without a restriction on the number of members who can place an offer. If we assume that thirty (30) minutes is needed to fill in the subject category form including the time it takes to gather the Members' offers, then the interested party's search has set up the conditions to complete a transaction. No travelling, no expenses, no unnecessary effort, no wasting of precious time. Every 'interested party' will get an overall picture of the market in order to complete transactions without leaving his home or office by making his purchase without being forced into making choices.

This is the 'new age' which the 'Energy in Business' application is unveiling to its users.

 A little … arithmetic

Let's see if this new practice is up to the hype, by doing some maths:

If Z = the time needed to make a request, which is the Mean, which includes:

a) the travel time required for one (1) visit to a supplier to explain his requirement (photovoltaic system).
b) time needed to receive the offer from the supplier

Z = a + b = 110 minutes (on average)

X = Product per supplier

Y = the requirement per product (project, service, material)

A = the time needed from the initial request/supplier till the receipt of the offer,

Thus, we have

A = X* Y* Z in minutes

During the time when a request has been made for the purchase of a product (Y = 1) some time will be needed to gather the various offers (Z = 110 min/product, in our example of the photovoltaic system)
Thus X=1 for each supplier's (product) offer. Let's say that the individual receives ten (10) offers from ten (10) suppliers.

Using the old practice Y = 1, X = 10, Z = 110 min/photovoltaic offer

Therefore A = Y* X* Z => A =1* 10* 110* = 1,100 min!

With the new practice, that is by using the EnergyInBusiness Application, a new parameter emerges in terms of the relation between the time consumed and the completion of the same procedure, thus we have:

Y = 1 (the products of the search, in this case, the domestic photovoltaic system)
X = 1 (The products offered per supplier, one (1) to n in the same time)
Z = 30 min/Total of products (In this case Z is not calculated cumulatively in the n suppliers).
The time for entering the details into the search as well as the time taken for receipt of the offers takes place once only for all the members of the subject category in which interest has been shown = procedure from the Energy in Business application's protocol.

Thus A will be: A = Y* X* Z => A=1 * 1 * 30 = 30 min!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The new practice is thus expressed in the diagram below.
